Developer Job Description

Basic Purpose

Develop Solutions

  • Identify, analyze, design, and maintain cost-effective information technology solutions that align with business initiatives and corporate strategies, investigate and resolve operational problems
  • Code/integrate solutions based upon design
  • Develop robust, scalable technical solutions that are in compliance with architecture guidelines, security requirements, design and development standards
  • Prepare test data, conduct unit testing, and debug code/system components
  • Coordinate and lead the integration of solutions with existing applications; identifies and resolves existing and potential conflicts to ensure compatibility and maximum system performance and availability
  • Create, update, and maintain clear/concise technical documentation for transition to support teams to ensure completeness and accuracy
  • Actively participate on IT project teams in delivering technical solutions to realize business objectives

Development Support

  • Provide comprehensive day-to-day oversight for design, development and testing of one or more projects in support of Navy Federal applications and systems
  • Ensure compliance with SDLC, Application Development, EA, CCRM, DBA, Data, and Security standards and procedures
  • Provide high level analysis of applications and enhancements for process improvement or re-engineering
  • Recommend and participate in obtaining customer approval for system solutions ensuring solutions meet customer requirements and ensure security and integrity of systems and/or processes
  • Be able to lead, develop and manage system implementations

Communication

  • Provide consistent, concise, relevant, reliable and timely information to all appropriate internal and external audiences/stakeholders through a variety of  media
  • Ensures accuracy of information  to enable effective business decisions
  • Communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical personnel
  • Frame message in line with audience experience, background, and expectations; uses terms, examples, and analogies that are meaningful to the audience

Continuous Improvement

  • Initiate activities and coordinate timely completion across Service and Support functions
  • Perform root-cause analysis to quickly  identify and resolve issues causing recurring technical problems
  • Consult and establish peer relationships with engineers, SMEs, Solutions Architects and other ISD staff to implement standard operating procedures, resolve system and product defects, and convey technical knowledge/expertise and direction
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) on projects
  • Collaborates in technology research, procurement, deployment, and configurations of new systems and processes
  • Maintain and support solutions throughout the project warranty period
  • Maintain and monitor the business application
  • Create, organize and maintain technical documentation to support the business application to ensure customer requirements are met
  • Troubleshoot to provide technical/operational support and problem resolution
  • Perform full range of tasks related to application analysis, design, and programming functions

Performs other related duties as assigned.
Other Qualifications:

  • Proficient in one or more of the following languages/technologies: J2EE, Javascript, Microsoft .net, COBOL, CICS, Lotus Notes, Adobe Flex, SQL, DB2, service oriented architecture(SOA), XML, and frameworks like JSP, JSTL, JMS, JNDI, JDBC, JAXB, Struts, Hibernate, Maven, log4j, SYNCSORT, Database design and Junit.
  • Work independently, with limited guidance
  • Solve complex problems; is willing to take new perspectives using existing solutions
  • Apply specific professional-level functional knowledge to solve problems requiring the identification and analysis of highly complex issues.
  • Consult with user management and technical staff to clarify program intent, identify problems, suggest changes, and determine required coding.
  • Prescribe standards to simplify interpretation of programs and documentation.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in operations support
  • Proven skillset in troubleshooting and resolving complex system and product defects
  • Extensive experience with operations performance, reliability, and availability metrics
  • Strong analytical, researching skills, planning and technical problem solving skills
  • Ability to present findings and conclusions clearly and concisely in an organized manner
  • Ability to exercise initiative, produce desired results and achieve objectives
  • Solid documentation and organizational skills
  • Ability to work and collaborate with all levels of management, staff, and vendors
  • Effective communications skills; written and verbal
  • Extensive capability to work independently, handle multiple priorities
  • Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of business applications

Desired:

  • Advanced degree or formal training in software development/engineering
  • Familiarity with financial industry
  • Knowledge of NFCU operations, processes, and procedures
  • Certifications as appropriate
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of organization's applications and systems

 
Work Days: Mon – Fri
Work hours: 8:00-4:30
